Matt is a music educator, guitarist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist in Greenville, South Carolina. He is Professor of Jazz Guitar and Director of Jazz Combos at Furman University. He is the owner of Music on Mitchell where he has been teaching lessons for guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, lap steel, and music theory since 2006.
He is Director of Operations, board member, and Co-Founder of the Greenville Jazz Collective (GJC) with Shannon Hoover, voted multiple times as Best Jazz Band of the Upstate by the readers of the Greenville News. He is a member of the Latin-pop group Phat Lip, and has played with Melissa Aldana, Wallace Roney, Jason Marsalis, Chris Vadala, Bob Moses, Jeff Sipe, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Spartanburg Philharmonic, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and for many touring Broadway companies including for Chicago, and 9 to 5 the Musical, Anything Goes, Motown the Musical, and others.
As an advocate and volunteer for music education and jazz, Matt has been the head of the Education Committee for the Greenville Jazz Collective and the JazzEd Ensemble which has performed over 50 school visits since 2014 for tens of thousands of Upstate students. Since its inception in 2012, Dingledine has helped the GJC to raise over $250,000 for jazz, music education, and performance purposes in the Upstate. He has coordinated jazz events for many area arts and cultural organizations such as The Peace Center, the Greenville County Museum of Art, the Greenville County Library, Upstate International, The Pleasantburg Rotary Club, the Children's Museum of the Upstate, and the Fine Arts Center.
Dingledine's compositions for small group have been featured by the GJC, the Asheville Original Music Series, and the Asheville Composer's Concert. Matt is a graduate of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, the Fine Arts Center of Greenville, and Christ Church Episcopal School.
